Small satellites can carry a significant payload, making it essential to develop a reliable CubeSat platform that serves as a robust foundation for various missions. This allows future satellite programs to focus solely on payload development, reducing time and cost to launch.
Our task was to design the mechanical components of the platform with particular emphasis on the challenges of the space environment. One of the most complex engineering challenges was designing the deployment mechanisms for the solar panels and antennas, ensuring their reliable operation under the harsh conditions of low Earth orbit.
The communication module and electronic boards were mounted using Card-Lok wedge retainers within the rail system, providing both mechanical stability and ease of assembly. Additionally, the communication unit was enclosed in a dedicated internal shielding housing to ensure thermal regulation and radiation protection, safeguarding sensitive electronics from space-borne hazards.
➡ Result: The development resulted in a universal small satellite platform that enables fast, cost-efficient mission deployment while ensuring the space-grade reliability and protection required for successful operation in orbit.
